History
Over six generations of Tyrone area people have received their elementary education in this "fine school on the hill". The Sisters of Mercy came from their Motherhouse in Loretto, PA to teach in the school which was built in 1886. Due to the shortage of nuns, the school is now staffed by five full time certified teachers and one part time certified teacher. The current enrollment is forty-nine students in Kindergarten through Grade Six. Twenty students are enrolled in the Preschool. As of the 2007-08 school year, we are now in a completely renovated school bulding with state of the art equipment and facilities. The St. Matthew School families and parishioners are very supportive of the Catholic education they desire for the children.

A word from our Principal
St. Matthew School offers quality instruction from certified, caring and dedicated teachers. Small class sizes allow for individual attention and a sense of community among our students and teachers. Our school welcomes children from all faiths. As stated in our philosophy, "The administration and faculty of St. Matthew School believe and teach that our basic reason for existing is to teach Christ and communicate Christian values to the entire school family".
